 Music

Curriculum Overview

“Music is a more potent instrument than any other for education.” - Plato

“Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity” - The National Curriculum

At Ferney Lee, we intend to inspire creativity and to encourage our children on their musical journeys whilst giving them opportunities to connect with others. We aim to foster a life-long love of music by exposing them to diverse musical experiences and igniting a passion for music. Children gain a firm understanding of what music is through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing, and composing across a wide variety of historical periods, styles, traditions, and musical genres. All children are given the opportunity to learn instruments, take part in performances and experience the joy that music brings. We recognise that music is a powerful educational tool and aim to use it across the curriculum and throughout school.

By listening and responding to different musical styles, developing as performers and creating as composers, our children will become confident, reflective musicians.

At Ferney Lee we hold weekly singing assemblies for KS1 and KS2.  We invite parents into Nursery every week to sing and enjoy musical fun with the children and we have a choir and an orchestra in KS2.  All KS2 children are offered free instrument tuition through Music For The Many.  We also take part in musical events in our community.

All classes have weekly music lessons following the Kapow scheme.
