Music
Curriculum Overview
“Music is a more potent instrument than any other for education.” - Plato
“Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity” - The National Curriculum
At Ferney Lee, we intend to inspire creativity and to encourage our children on their musical journeys whilst giving them opportunities to connect with others. We aim to foster a life-long love of music by exposing them to diverse musical experiences and igniting a passion for music. Children gain a firm understanding of what music is through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing, and composing across a wide variety of historical periods, styles, traditions, and musical genres. All children are given the opportunity to learn instruments, take part in performances and experience the joy that music brings. We recognise that music is a powerful educational tool and aim to use it across the curriculum and throughout school.
By listening and responding to different musical styles, developing as performers and creating as composers, our children will become confident, reflective musicians.
At Ferney Lee, all children are offered free instrument tuition through Music For The Many.
Pupils also benefit from whole class glockenspiel lessons in KS1 and ukulele lessons in KS2.
Every class has regular music lessons following the Charanga scheme.
