Applying for a school place

Starting school is a big moment and a big decision for parents.

Visits from families are always welcome at any point in the year. If you would like to come and visit us, please get in touch with the school office who would be happy to arrange a time for you to do so.

Starting Reception:  September 2025

Children born between 1^st September 2020 and 31^st August 2021 are eligible to begin Reception class in September 2025.

Please note that even if your child attends our school nursery, a separate application must be made when they transfer from nursery to primary school.

APPLY FOR A SCHOOL PLACE

Parents/guardians with children resident in Calderdale will need to apply for a school place online at www.calderdale.gov.uk/admissions

You can view or amend your online application throughout the preferencing period from Friday 18 November 2024 until 15 January 2025.  An automated email will be sent to you as acknowledgement of receipt once the application has been submitted.   Parents/guardians may also request that the offer of a school place is received by email.

Offers of school places will be made on National Offer Day, which is Wednesday 16 April 2025.

Parents of children resident outside of Calderdale will need to submit their application to their home local authority.

Starting Nursery:

Children start nursery class from the start of the school term following their third birthday.

You can work out the earliest date your child will be eligible for a place in Ferney Lee Nursery from the table below.

*Children born in April will start the following September no matter when Easter holidays actually fall.

All children are entitled to 15 hours a week of free childcare (“universal entitlement”) at a community school nursery (such as ours).

In addition to the universal entitlement of 15 hours (5x 3 hour sessions per week), we also accept the ‘extended entitlement’ of 15 hours for working families, and offer all children 15 discretionary hours in the nursery (these discretionary hours cannot be taken during wrap-around-care). Therefore, our early education offer is 30 hours free childcare to ALL families. The maximum offer to any child is 30 hours (10 sessions) combined entitlement per week.

Parents should expect to pay for additional services over and above the early education offer, such as meals, day trips and wrap-around care where needed.

At Ferney Lee, we offer wrap-around care during term times, Monday to Friday, between the hours of 7:30 am and 6 pm.  For more information please see our Wrap-Around Care page.

Joining our school once the school year has begun ('in-year applications'):

If you would like a place in this Years 2024-2025 Reception class, please follow the 'in-year' admission information on the Calderdale website. However, please note the Reception class for this school year is currently full. 

Our Nursery is also currently full for 2024/25.

For a place in the rest of the school from Y1 - Y6 (‘in-year applications’), please contact the school office for more information in the first instance.  You will need to apply for an in-year transfer via the Local Authority.  For more information, you can visit:
